Elizabeth Mae Porath, 95
Elizabeth Mae Porath, 95, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Sandpoint. Pastor Barry Johnson will officiate.
Elizabeth was born on Aug. 27, 1909, in Dolliver, Iowa, one of 14 children born to William and Elizabeth (Fank) Anderson. She moved at a young age to North Dakota, where she grew up and attended schools in Richland County, N.D.
Her youth was spent working on the farm and herding the horses, cattle and turkeys with her brothers in the prairie of North Dakota.
Elizabeth married Frederick William Porath on Jan. 18, 1929, in Wolvereton, Minn.
She and her family moved to Idaho in 1939 from Colfax, N.D. Elizabeth stayed at home to care for her family and the Porath Ranch in Kootenai, which was the original "Hidden Valley Dairy Ranch."
It was there that she enjoyed tending to her garden and flowers, and caring for the cattle and chickens. She also enjoyed going to the cattle auctions, a major social event at the time. She was a member of the Kootenai Ladies Aide and Kootenai Grange.
Her family fondly remembers her as a great cook and a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Elizabeth is survived by five children, Elizabeth Berger of Sandpoint, Shirley Miller of Thompson Falls, Mont., Dennis Porath of Clark Fork, Idaho, Rodger Porath of Sandpoint and Gary Porath of Sandpoint; 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Jim (Darlene) Anderson, Emeth (Quentin) Boyer, Margaret Williams and Warren (Angie) Anderson, all of Richland County, N.D.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred, in 1967; her daughter, Phyllis in January 2005; and nine siblings.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
