John Andrew Adam, 85, of Osburn, Idaho, passed away March 5, 2005, at Mountain Valley Care in Kellogg, Idaho.

Viewing will be Wednesday and Thursday, March 9 and March 10, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2004, at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d'Alene. Interment will be at the Forest Cemetery.

John was born Aug. 16, 1919, in Hannah, Alberta, Canada, to William and Katherine (Bonnett) Adam. When he was 3 years old, his family moved to Hayden Lake, Idaho, where he grew up. There he met Thelma Eng and they married on Feb. 24, 1940. The couple made their home in Osburn.

During World War II, he served four years with the U.S. Navy. Once discharged, he worked at the Coeur d'Alene Foundry in Wallace for 21 years. He and Thelma purchased the Red Fir Resort in Hope, Idaho, and operated the resort from 1961 until 1973. During this time, John also was a carpenter for the Lucky Friday Mine in Mullan.

John retired in 1984 at their home in Hope.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and George Clapp of Osburn; a sister, Elvina Fields; a sister, Juanita Falls of Sequim, Wash.; grandchildren, Lisa Ellison and husband Shawn, of Coeur d'Alene, and Bruce Clapp and wife, Angela, of Lewiston; and great-grandchildren, Derek and Connor Ellison and Annalia and Gabriella Clapp. He is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Adam; sisters, Hilda Thomas, Leona Howerton and Mabel Jess; and a brother, Dan Adam.
