Peace walk marks war's anniversary

March 19 begins year number three of war against Iraq.

It's an anniversary of anguish for families who loved ones have died or returned with terrible injuries, physical and psychological. For them all, our profound sympathy.

Compassion, too, for those who supported the war believing it would make us safe.

A Pentagon report states that "American efforts have not only failed, (they) have paradoxically elevated the stature of, and support for the Islamic radical extremists while diminishing support for the U.S." (Nov. 23, 2004).
