Support students, vote yes on levy

| March 19, 2005 8:00 PM

The Daily Bee wholly supports the supplemental levy facing voters this Tuesday.

Idaho's system for funding education is broken, pure and simple, and supplemental levies have become a way of life because of under funding from the state. The $3.22 million per year for the next two years will not increase the amount we taxpayers pay for schools — that tax bill will remain flat.

School District No. 84 has gotten its act together. The finances add up. An independent auditor gave district business manager Lisa Hals an A+ rating for the way the district's finances are handled. The school board has spent many hours working on a strategic plan that will prepare our children for the future.

The school district is focusing on the important matters facing us — providing a sound education while keeping an eye on finances.

We urge you to give a vote of support Tuesday to a school district that is moving in the right direction.
