Harold Harry Rounsville, 85, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2005, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clark Fork, Idaho. A private family burial will be held at Clark Fork Cemetery. The Rev. Dennis C. Day will officiate.

Harold was born on Nov. 24, 1919, in Anoka, Minn., the son of Harry and Minnie (Frieschmidt) Rounsville. The family moved to Clark Fork, Idaho, in September 1928. Harold attended Clark Fork grade and high schools, graduating in 1937.

He worked in the mines at Clark Fork and married Grace Garrison on May 29, 1942, in Thompson Falls, Mont. Harold went into the armed forces in 1942, serving his country during World War II with the U.S. Army. He served 35 months overseas with the 334th Special Service Engineers, serving in Iran, France and Germany.

In September 1945, he returned to the United States, where he rejoined his wife and family. He resumed work in the mines at Clark Fork, the Hope Silver and Lead mines and the White Delf Silver and Lead mine doing a lot of contract work, helping to sink 800 feet of shaft and also a lot of tunnel work trying to find the ore body.

After the mines shut down in the late 1950s, he went to work in the timber industry, where he also did contract work. He also worked a few years for the Idaho State Highway Department from which he retired in 1984.

Harold loved to hunt, fish and pick huckleberries.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wonderful wife, Grace, to whom he was married to for 56 years before her death in 1998; a daughter, two infant sons, a grandson, four brothers and a sister.

He is survived by a daughter, Norma Dettwiler of Columbia Falls, Mont.; a son, Richard "Rick" Rounsville of Clark Fork; two granddaughters, Lynn Schlicht of Clark Fork and Judy McMillan of Missoula, Mont.; three grandsons, Bob Dettwiler, Mike Schlicht of Sandpoint and Tim Rounsville; and good friend, Anita. He also is survived by several brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
