MOSCOW — The Moscow Bears slipped past Sandpoint for an 7-5 Inland Empire League tennis victory Wednesday afternoon.

With a solid performance in the No. 1 boys singles match, Sandpoint's Del Armstrong defeated Morgan Scott 6-2, 6-2 to lead the Bulldog effort.

"I haven't seen a bad match from Del this year," said Sandpoint tennis coach Jane Rockwell. "He hasn't lost a match yet against Post Falls and Moscow and those are the important ones."

Sandpoint also had victories by Jesse Petty and Dusty Aunan in the No. 1 boys doubles match, and Jessie Novak in No. 3 girls singles action. Ryan Williams and Jennifer Johnson each won their matches by default.

"I think this is kind of a rebuilding year for us. We moved up a bunch of kids from JV to varsity, but I think they're doing fine," said Rockwell, who graduated nine player last spring. "It's still early and who know we might surprise ourselves."

Sandpoint plays host to Lake City on Tuesday, April 12 at Travers Park.
