Increasing height limits will ruin Sandpoint's charm

| March 30, 2005 8:00 PM

I couldn't agree with Ms. Whitaker more on her dislike of increasing building height limits in Sandpoint. Sandpoint is a charming, historic and fun town to live in and to visit. What happens to the tourism base if developers have their way and the town becomes a melange of non-descript glass boxes towering over the downtown streets? What happens to the souls of the residents when the human scale of buildings disappears along with the beauty of the surrounding lake and mountain views?

Not only is it incumbent for the City Council to prohibit the height increase in the downtown core, it is also imperative for them to develop strong architectural standards to govern any new building or remodels and keep them within the "Sandpoint Style" vernacular.

The majority of us who have chosen the Sandpoint area to live in have forsaken soulless cities of looming glass boxes for the lifestyle and living quality found here. Please don't let the City Council take that away from the citizens just to appease rapacious developers.
