Walter Max Kalben, 94

Walter Max Kalben, 94, passed away in Kootenai, Idaho, on April 30, 2005.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Walter was born in Butte, Mont., on June 1, 1910. He moved to San Diego, Calif., in the early 1920s, where he graduated from high school.

He married Ruth Hosley on Sept. 23, 1935, in Yuma, Ariz., and she preceded him in death in 1995.

He became a journeyman plumber in the San Diego area, working in commercial building and construction. In 1965, he moved to Snohomish, Wash., continuing his work as a union plumber, retiring in 1972.

On Sept. 2, 1979, he moved to Sagle, Idaho, and began construction on his log home.

In California, Walter raced hydroplanes (135's) on a racing circuit. He also enjoyed fishing and square dancing.

He is survived by three children, Jacquelyn Jackson of Sagle, Kay McKenna of McCall, Idaho, and Corky Kalben of Sagle; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, some still living in Germany.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
