Bulldog boys go long at all-star track meet

POST FALLS — The Sandpoint's boys dominated the throwing events at the District I All-Star Track Meet with Brian Resso leading the Bulldogs' 1-2-3 finish in the shot put, and a 1-2-4 finish in the discus Thursday.

Resso had a personal best in the discus by two feet with a throw of 158 feet, 5 inches. He won the shot at 51-10 1/2. Sean Lissy, Sandpoint's top shot putter with a best of 53-7, was second at 49-7.

"We've just had a good group of kids come through," Sandpoint throws coach Tom Albertson said. "They're dedicated to weight lifting; they started throwing as freshmen, and they've kept with it. When you've got good material to work with, it makes your job easy."

Bonners Ferry sophomore Katie Poston, coming off victories in the shot put and discus at the prestigious Pasco Invitational last weekend, won the shot (42-9 1/2) and discus (143-11). She broke her own school record on Monday at Kellogg, throwing 147-1 in the discus. Her best in the shot this year is 43-6.

She said she enjoys competing against girls from the larger schools.

"I was scared last year for this meet, and this year I was scared at the beginning of the year," she said. "But then I went down to the Pasco meet and won that, so I wasn't as nervous this time as last year."
