Eugene O. Reed, 79

Eugene O. Reed, 79, a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, since 1963, passed away April 21, 2005, at his retirement home on Lake Clark in Alaska. At his request, no services will be held.

Gene was born Feb. 6, 1926, to Glenn and Edna Reed in Dover, Idaho. He grew up on the family farm in the Sagle area and attended the University of Idaho, where he received a bachelor's degree in agriculture. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Franklin during World War II.

Gene worked for the Farmer's Home Administration in Sandpoint, assisting Dale Sanner and later accepting an assignment as administrator of Farmer's Home Administration in Salmon, Idaho.

In the early 1960s, Gene became a State Farm insurance agent in Salmon, Idaho, and, in 1963, he accepted an appointment as State Farm Insurance Companies agency manager in Anchorage. He retired from this position in 1989 and spent summers at Lake Clark and winters in Anchorage.

Gene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beth Reed at the family home; two daughters, Connie Shaw of Anchorage and Raelene (Scott) Helin of Anchorage; a son, Jeffrey (Kirsten) Reed of Silverdale, Wash.; five granddaughters and two grandsons; a brother, Jim (Frances) Reed of Sagle; a sister, Myrna Mae Murray of Mesa, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clarence.
