Darrell George Walson, 73, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Thursday, May 5, 2005.

A memorial to his life will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2005, in the Hideaway in the Bonner Mall in Ponderay, Idaho.

Darrell was born in Lusk, Wyo., on Feb. 21, 1932, the son of Chester and Clarabelle Walson. The family moved to Dover in 1934, where he attended Bonner County schools.

He joined the U.S. Air Force, serving his country during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan and England. After his military service, he returned to the Sandpoint area and worked as a logger.

In 1973, he moved to Haines, Alaska, working railroad construction, as a truck driver. On Oct. 27, 1973, he married Virginia Scott in Juneau, Alaska. In 1983, he returned to Sandpoint, driving truck for Wood's Crushing and Hauling. He retired in 1995.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking and making furniture.

He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 1376.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Walson of Sandpoint; four children, Darylynn Molt of Sandpoint, Rocky Walson of Rathdrum, Idaho, Nancy Reed of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Sandy Walters of Sandpoint; nine grandchildren; a brother, L.C. "Bus" Walson of Dover; a sister, Vivian Olson of Sandpoint; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and stepchildren, Diana Moore of Sandpoint and Tana Mercer of Sandpoint. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Fran; a sister, Hazel; and a brother, Ray.
