East Hope mayor among trio injured in head-on accident
PONDERAY — Three people, including East Hope Mayor Lawrence "Bud" Moon, were injured Wednesday in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 95.
Idaho State Police said Moon was northbound in a Subaru Legacy when he drifted across the center of the highway and crashed into a southbound Subaru Forester driven by Robert S. Olsen of Sandpoint.
Moon, 79, was taken to Bonner General Hospital, as were Olsen, 58, and his 60-year-old passenger, Rosemary Lucas-Olsen. All three people were wearing seat belts at the time of the 11 a.m.m crash, according to state police.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation. The collision happened beneath the railroad overpass just north of the U.S. 95/Highway 200 junction.
Moon was transferred from Bonner General to the intensive care unit at Coeur d'Alene's Kootenai Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.
Olsen was listed in stable condition at Bonner General and Rosemary Lucas-Olsen was treated and released, a hospital official said late Wednesday.
