Hazel Leona Chandler, 86
Hazel Leona Chandler, 86, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2005, in Sagle, Idaho.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Coffelt's Moon Chapel. Inurnment will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Hazel was born on Nov. 8, 1918, in Trouchet, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of George and Minnie (Wagner) Johnson.
She grew up in Trouchet and met her husband, Earl, at Canadian Union College. They were married on Nov. 11, 1941, in Beiseker, Alberta, Canada.
Hazel was an amazing, strong woman. She cared for the farm, the cattle and haying as well as cooking and meeting the daily needs for her family.
She and her husband moved to Anchorage, Alaska, for 10 years, following her husband's career, returning to Walla Walla, Wash., where she attended college, taking classes in nursing and lab training. She was a very successful nurse and worked in the lab for many doctor's offices.
She constantly opened her home for family and friends who needed a place to stay. Even into her 80s, her family would gather at her home for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
Hazel had a wonderful sense of humor, and enjoyed her sewing and reading. She loved her flowers and grew beautiful roses. She dearly enjoyed dancing with her husband Earl. In her younger years, she enjoyed riding horses.
In 1990, she and her husband moved to Sandpoint. She invested a lot of her time in people and for many years contributed to the activities and functions of her church.
Hazel is survived by a daughter, Patricia Patzer of Sagle; a son, Richard (Linda Jill) Chandler of Walla Walla; three grandchildren, Faren Chandler Smith of Sandpoint, Dov Friedman of Walla Walla and Erika Friedman of Walla Walla; a great-grandson, Hunter Chandler Smith; a sister, Ruth; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Earl; and a sister, Ethel Schierer.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
