City concludes advisory election

| May 13, 2005 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — While less than the byway vote, an advisory vote on a proposed height increase ordinance drew slightly more than 23 percent of the city's registered voters to City Hall this week.

A total of 814 — or 23.03 percent of the city's 3,073 registered voters — voted in the week-long election bolstered by the 194 people who cast their ballot Friday.

In comparison, the byway advisory ballot drew a 25 percent turnout.

The city is seeking input on a proposed ordinance that would allow buildings to reach 60 feet with conditional use permits in designated areas of downtown Sandpoint.

The 23-percent turnout compares with the 33 percent who voted in the last mayoral election 18 months ago and the 162 people — or 5 percent — who voted in the 2001 council race with three uncontested races.

Votes will be tallied Monday, May 16, and final results of election will be posted before 5 p.m.
