Assessor's staff is just doing their job
Soon those dreaded real property tax assessment notices will be in your mailbox and the assessor is warning you to expect a big increase in value. Most people understand that Idaho law requires the assessor to assess at "market value" so likely the increase in the value of your property is non-discretionary.
Still, I know the assessor's office will soon be packed with people worried and angry about the increase in their valuation. Having witnessed a few "scenes" in that office, I only ask my fellow citizens to be respectful of the assessor's staff, especially the women at the front desk and those who answer the phones. These public employees are all our neighbors, they are just as worried about increasing property taxes as everyone else, and they try throughout the year to be helpful, pleasant and above-all fair.
