Byway will only hurt revitalization efforts

RE Mark William's column, "SURA board …"
It's quite amusing that certain avid proponents of the Sand Creek highway, including Sandpoint Mayor Ray Miller apparently, are suddenly expressing concern about its negative impacts on Sandpoint's economy.
The loss of 260 jobs estimated by the Idaho Transportation Department as a result of the "byway" is now officially being used as an excuse to establish the downtown urban renewal district. How, I ask, is "revitalizing" the downtown going to recreate the jobs lost in the downtown as a result of placing a noisy, elevated freeway on our waterfront, which will drive tourists and consequently businesses from the downtown?
