Mary Jean Baptist went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 1, 2005.

Mary was born Nov. 4, 1917, in Manitou, Colo., to parents Brownie and David M. Jones. The family relocated to Pasadena, Calif., and Mary graduated from Pasadena High School in January 1936.

During the Great Depression, the family moved to Gardena, Calif., where Mary met and married Ivan E. Baptist of Fort Scott, Kan. Mary and Ivan built their home in Gardena, where they raised two children.

Mary worked for TRW Semiconductors in Redondo Beach, Calif., for more than 20 years until her retirement. Mary and Ivan had been married for 49 years at the time of his death.

Mary moved to Clark Fork, Idaho, in July 1990. She loved her home on the Clark Fork river and truly enjoyed the beauty, safety and friendship of Clark Fork. Mary had many good friends from the Clark Fork United Methodist Church and Cabinet Mountain Calvary Chapel and the community. Mary enjoyed tending her home, gardening and loving her pets. Her hobbies included cross stitch needlepoint, furniture refinishing, sewing and her family.

For the past 2 1/2 years, Mary was lovingly cared for by her beloved caregiver, Robina Scarlett. Mary came to regard Robina as a second daughter and received excellent care from her.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Brownie Tilton Jones, and her father, David M. Jones of Gardena, Calif; her husband, Ivan E. Baptist, also of Gardena. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah J. Baptist of Clark Fork; her son, Steven E. Baptist of Ranch Santa Margarita, Calif.; her grandson, Jason D. Baptist, of Ranch Santa Margarita, Calif.; her granddaughter, Kristie A. Weiss of Summerfield, N.C.; and her son-in-law, David Weiss of Summerfield.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint, Idaho.
