Jack D. Devault, 70
Jack D. Devault, 70, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at Coffelt's Funeral Chapel, 109 N. Division St., in Sandpoint. The Rev. Dennis C. Day will officiate. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jack was born in Norwood, Mo., on June 6, 1935, to Levi and Agnes DaVault. He was one of 10 brothers and sisters.
Jack entered the Air Force at the young age of 16 and served in the Korean War. He was an accomplished boxer and was a member of the Air Force boxing team.
In the late 1950s, Jack enjoyed racing jalopies at the Nevada County Fair. He owned a Savings Sam's Gas Station in Grass Valley, Calif. Gas was most likely under 20 cents a gallon back then.
Jack lived in California until the late 1960s and moved to settle in Sandpoint. He met his lovely wife Norma, whom he married in Elko, Nev., in May 1981. Jack was the proud father of his two daughters, Jackie and Heather; and his three stepchildren, Nannette, Roxane and Brandon.
Jack worked in the timber industry and even owned his own logging company "Devault Logging" until the time he retired. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and picking huckleberries all throughout his life.
He also had many hobbies, building rock fireplaces and portable dog houses on which he held a patent. Jack took great pride in the landscaping of his home and gardening with his wife. He also enjoyed playing bingo. He and Norma often frequented the surrounding casinos.
Jack is survived by his wife, Norma; his daughter, Heather Devault; his stepchildren, Nannette Rounsville, Roxane Austin and Brandon Ball; his grandchildren, Adam, Tylor and Ashley Rounsville, Trevor and Joshua Austin, and Danielle and Felicia Ball; and his siblings Thelma Field of North Little Rock, Ark., June Freitas of Grass Valley, Calif., Jim DaVault of Samuels, Idaho, Velma Goutch of Bixby, Okla., Dolly Foutch of Farmington, N.M., Darlene Blume of Farmington and Jim Doss of Farmington. He also leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jack was preceeded in death by his parents, Levi and Agnes DaVault; a daughter, Jackie Kaufman; and sisters, Jane Heller and Helen DaVault.
Jack was known by many and will be deeply missed. All memorial donations will be given to the North Idaho Cancer Center, c/o 700 Ironwood Drive, Suite 103, Coeur d' Alene, Idaho 83814.
