Rudolph G. 'Rudy' Olazabal, 74

Rudolph G. "Rudy" Olazabal, 74, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at his home in Sandpoint, Idaho.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at Lakeview Funeral Home with Charley Packard officiating.

Rudy was born on Dec. 22, 1930, in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of Rudolph and Vera (Abeyta) Olazabal. He grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from high school.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on April 27, 1948, and was stationed at El Torro in Santa Anna, Calif., for the duration of his enlistment and was honorably discharged on Jan. 25, 1950.

Rudy was a member of the Iron Workers in Los Angeles and retired in 1972. He taught art and pottery at Rio Honda College for a few years. He opened his own pottery shop and sold award winning pottery from Los Angeles to San Diego. Sand Castle Pottery, as his business was called, won many prizes and awards nationally.

He moved to Sandpoint and married Donna (Heath) Miller in 1991 and lived on Hopkins Road in Sandpoint until his death.

Rudy enjoyed riding horses, pottery, art and living on "his piece of heaven." He loved his wife and grandchildren and "will always be in his spirit and cherished thoughts".

Survivors include his wife, Donna Olazabal; his daughters, Cathy Olazabal and Dawn Munoz; his sons, Terry Olazabal, Cary Olazabal and Gary Adante; his grandchildren, Steven Olazabal, Teresa Olazabal, Madison Olson, Nickolas Munoz, Taylor Miller, Naaman Jones, Hailey Jones, Delanie Miller, Cagnie Miller, and Mackenize Miller; his mother, Vera Olazabal; his sisters, Barbara Pena and Pat Caneen; his sister-in-law, Chris Adante; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and his son, Jerry.
