Things to ponder about Sandpoint's direction

| November 16, 2005 8:00 PM

I'm going to comment on several things wrong with the direction this town is going in or has already gone.

1) With all the grand building of Panhandle State Bank, look what you are replacing — an in-town grocery store. Does anyone consider the elderly or ones who don't have a car to get their groceries. Yes, we have Safeway. That's all right for those who live north of town but those to the south and west, it's a hardship.

2) Now that we have destroyed a piece of history with the demolition of the grain elevator, what are we going to see to replace it? Will it be something the citizens of Bonner County can be proud of? I doubt it. I hope the city fathers have observed how well Jeff Buck cleaned up the elevator site. There isn't a rock or stick to throw at anymore.

3) Next time the members of NICAN meet, think about this. You don't want the Sand Creek bypass, so what's the option? Of course to the west. If a new bridge goes across the river at the narrowest point, you will be running smack dab into the Dover development. I don't think you want to butt heads with the developer of that project. Give it up. Get a life.
