William A. 'Bill' Kallio, 87

William A. "Bill" Kallio, 87, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Pastor Jim Osman, Kootenai Community Church, will officiate.

Bill was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Aug. 13, 1918, the son of Frank and Josephine Kallio.

He grew up in Sandpoint and attended Bonner County schools.

As a young man, he worked as a logger in the timber industry.

During World War II, he worked in the shipyards in Seattle, Wash., as a welder.

On Sept. 23, 1952, he and Ruth Dandy were married in Sandpoint.

Bill worked for the Idaho Department of Transportation for 30 years, retiring in 1980.

Bill had fished commercially on Lake Pend Oreille. He loved ice fishing and enjoyed hunting, huckleberry picking and being outdoors. He loved his garden and sharing the produce.

He is survived by his four children, Frank (and Sharon) Kallio, Floyd Kallio, Cecelia Spracklen, and Mary (and Joel) Fisher, all of Sandpoint; four grandchildren, Wade Spracklen, Krista Vallelunga, Teresa Roberts and Dylan Fisher; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ruth.

Memorials may be made to the Bonner County Search and Rescue, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint, Idaho.
