LaVerne H. Simpson, 87, passed away, Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

No services will be held at her request.

LaVerne was born on June 24, 1918, in Coalwood, Mont., to Lee and Frieda Hudson. She attended schools in Miles City, Mont.

LaVerne entered the U.S. Navy on Oct. 17, 1943, and served during World War II and the Korean War. She retired from the Navy June 6, 1978, with many awards and accommodations. She moved to Sandpoint in 1981.

She is a member of American Legion Post No. 0015. She enjoyed cooking and sharing with friends and neighbors.

She is survived by her half-brother, James Smith of Ridgecrest, Calif.; a half-sister, Betty Hoskins of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Don Dadigan of Ventura, Calif.; stepsons, Ralph and David Holtby; nieces, Debbie Meaux of Sandpoint, Diana Dawson of Sandpoint and Pam Carhart of Hopkinton, Mass.; nephews, Michael and Jon Dawson of Sandpoint; and friend, Sheri Remmers of Sandpoint.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edwin Hudson; three sisters, Loretta King, Dora Dawson and Leona Dadigan.
