School's downsizing of pledge is simply wrong

| October 1, 2005 9:00 PM

This week during yet another repetitive day at Sandpoint High School, I was listening to the announcements when I heard something that I found absolutely appalling.

To my dismay, we were informed that the Pledge of Allegiance was hereby going to be recited only on Monday mornings (as opposed to every morning).

I find it truly ridiculous that we cannot bear to take a mere 30 seconds out of our busy little lives to honor our country and veterans.

My independence is not a subject I take lightly, nor do many of my peers.

Regardless of anybody's political views, I think that we all can agree that saying the Pledge of Allegiance in the mornings (for the people who wish to do so) is hardly a large inconvenience.

Those who don't want to recite it, deserve the option to choose not to, and those who do, should be give the opportunity to do so daily.

I am convinced there are many men and women in different countries, less fortunate than ourselves, who would gladly give their right arm to receive the freedoms that we in America are blessed with every day. They would surely not object to dedicating nearly half a minute a day to honor that freedom.

So I all have left to say is that the next time the administration/school decides to assist in downsizing the patriotism in this country even more, please at least provide us with a logical explanation.
