Higher education is losing its value

| October 8, 2005 9:00 PM

Claims that American literature instructor Keith Hunter made inappropriate comments should be thoroughly looked into, and if found out to be true, Hunter should be fired from his job at both North Idaho College and Timberlake High School.

All instructors should be held to a higher standard. Students learn a lot from off-the-cuff comments and will model their professors to some degree when they get out in the "real world." Higher education seems to be one of the few places that disgusting comments and behavior are tolerated. If I owned a business, I surely wouldn't want that sort of talk going around my shop and that's surely not what I would want my future employees to be learning in college. Would you?

I believe that higher education is losing its worth in preparing young adults for the work force and incidents like this are just one more hole in a sinking ship. Let's patch some holes and start bailing.
