Acts of kindness deserve thanks and recognition

| October 17, 2005 9:00 PM

I have always believed that compliments should be given as quickly as criticism, and to extend credit where it's due. With this thought in mind I would like to offer some words of praise to some individuals in the community whose actions deserve mention and credit.

This past summer I worked on updating my state quarter and nickel collections, and made a number of trips to the local banks searching for the ones that I needed. As I exchanged rolls of coins it was inspiring to see how courteous all of the bank employees were. Certainly my transactions didn't generate any revenue for the bank, yet I was treated with the same respect as customers with more profitable exchanges.

I have also been inspired by the Sandpoint Police Department's officers whose pleasant demeanor and professional manners are much appreciated by this citizen. My truck has a long delay on the dome light switch and sometimes takes an hour before it will shut itself off. On several evenings an officer has taken the time to knock on my door to check to see if my vehicle had been tampered with, or concerned that my battery may run down. These simple acts of kindness tell me that they are aware of the "goings-on" in our community, and I feel a lot safer knowing that they are looking out for us.

I would also like to extend a special "thanks" to Rick, Laurie, and Lance for being considerate and concerned neighbors.
