Laws prevent banning of 'under God' in pledge

| October 24, 2005 9:00 PM

I am a freshman at Sandpoint High School, and it has come to my attention that the United States government cannot legally take "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance, the Ten Commandments from public areas and prayer from school.

The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states that all U.S. citizens have freedom of speech — all, not just non-Christians, but all. By passing the above "laws," they are saying that only non-Christians have freedom of speech, which according to the First Amendment, they cannot do.

This is my way of helping society, opening everyone's eyes to the fact that the government is breaking their own laws right in front of us.
