Elliott is zealous advocate for city

| October 26, 2005 9:00 PM

The little kids have voted with their bare feet. "Yes" for the fountain in Jeff Jones Town Square. Many are responsible for this wonderful community amenity but none more than council member Cindy Elliott. I worked with Cindy on the Resort City Tax campaign, a successful effort to fund even more downtown improvements, and at the least cost to city residents. She was clear headed in her thinking and effective in her leadership. The result: better sidewalks, safer streets, and an ever prouder Sandpoint.

But Cindy's best work as a City Council member has been largely unsung. She has spotted and helped resolve numerous legal problems that were inhibiting the city from effectively serving its business owners and residents. Her skill as a practicing attorney is a bonus to the City Council and her constituents.

I practice law myself in Sandpoint and have had many dealings with Cindy, as an adversary and in common cause. In every case she has been smart, considerate, and principled. But, above all, she has been a zealous advocate for her client. Those are good skills for a city council member, too.

Cindy Elliott deserves another term on the City Council because she'll make smart decisions on behalf of all Sandpoint residents, she'll work effectively with her colleagues, and she'll zealously protect the city's interests when and where it matters most.
