Newton, Lockwood would serve city well

| October 26, 2005 9:00 PM

Helen Newton and Steve Lockwood are running for Sandpoint City Council and we think it is very important that we give hem our vote at this crucial moment in our history.

Helen Newton has lived here for 58 years and has been city clerk for the last 24 years. She knows the workings of local government and is very concerned about fiscal responsibility and a more open government willing to listen to the people's concerns and how the decisions of the council will affect the average citizen. And, above all, she cares deeply about this area.

Steve Lockwood is a relative newcomer to Sandpoint, but he has been very involved in local government and issues. He cares about the direction we should pursue to make this a better place to live. He advocates strong neighborhoods, a vibrant downtown to meet local needs and a citizen-friendly government that listens.

Both Helen and Steve are for more dialogue and cooperation between Sandpoint and Bonner County as well as neighboring cities to work for the common good. They both are very concerned about the ability of people to afford to live here and about preserving our diverse populace.

Please consider voting for Helen Newton and Steve Lockwood on Nov. 8.
