Stanley Max 'Stan' Harder, 87

Stanley "Stan" Max Harder, 87, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept., 8, 2005, at Pinecrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Nancy Copeland-Payton of the First Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint officiating.

Stan was born on Nov. 3, 1917, in Shelby, Neb., to Antone and Anna Harder. He moved to Idaho as a young man and lived at Sunnyside, later moving to the Oden area. As the oldest child, Stan helped his mother raise his five siblings.

In 1941, Mr. Harder was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country for 4 1/2 years in the South Pacific, and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Stan married his wife Vivian in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, in 1950.

For many years they lived in Marysville, Wash., and Stan worked as a carpenter. They later moved to Spokane.

In 1990, he moved to Sandpoint and built a home to be closer to his siblings.

Stan enjoyed fancy woodworking, and his two poodles, Sparky and Buffy. He was a member of the Sandpoint Eagle's Lodge.

He is survived by his stepdaughter, JoAnn of Roseville, Calif.; three sisters, Elowen (Ed) Parkins, Doris Stevens, and Bernadine Meeker, all of Sandpoint, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Vivian; a brother, Harold; and a sister, Patty.
