Youth soccer descends on Sandpoint this weekend

SANDPOINT — It shouldn't be hard to get your soccer fix this weekend as Sandpoint plays host to the Striker International Soccer Tournament.

Sixty-three teams from Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Canada will be competing in the three day event, which kicks off Friday at 5:30 p.m., and continues through late Sunday.

U11 through U14/15 boys and girls soccer matches will take place on ten fields spread throughout various venues around Sandpoint, including: Barlow Field, Pine st. Field, Travers Park, Farmin/Stidwell School, and Kootenai Elementary.

"There will be some good talent here," said Sandpoint Soccer director Eric Swanbeck. "We typically finish in the top three teams in most age groups and should fare well in this tournament."

The weekend of soccer includes a college match between Dixie State and North Idaho College at Barlow Field Saturday night at 7 p.m.
