Reality means preparation while praying for peace

| September 13, 2005 9:00 PM

I read Nancy Renk's letter (high cost of war …) and felt compelled to respond.

I think there is a serious disconnect in the logic she used to describe her feelings about war. She suggests that "we must work within existing treaties and international organizations to resolve our differences."

Well, if memory serves me, The League of Nations (including France, England, the U.S,, etc) attempted to appease Hitler before the start of World War II. That failed, and by the early months of 1941 the "final solution" was well into its horrible machinations.

The intention of my letter is to point out that the reality of this world is that one prays for peace while preparing for war. The ideal of universal peace is wonderful and an honorable goal, but do not ignore the fact that the terrorists do not want us all to get along. They simply want us gone.
