Let's get together to help hurricane's many victims
It's in the news, it's big, and it's overshadowing many other things good and bad happening in the world. Our "war" is still going on. Fidel Castro offered to send 1,500 doctors and 26 tons of supplies to treat victims of Hurricane Katrina.
More than 6,000 people (mostly children) die each day of starvation. Let's fix those problems real soon.
Right now I'm wondering what we here in Bonner County can do to help out some of our brothers and sisters in need. I read the editorials this morning and there was a whole list of places to send money, I've sent some and it felt OK. What would feel really good to me is to see our community rise up and give something of itself to the disaster victims. (It may be happening already and I just don't know about it) I've got clothing I would love to donate. I also have some toys and some tools and bunch of books.
Can we get UPS and Fed-Ex to donate some shipping? Is there a laundromat in town willing to donate use of their machines so we can wash those cloths before we send them?
Help me. Is this already happening? Are there people and groups that want to make it happen? Can we meet here on these editorial pages so the rest of the community can take part even if it is vicariously?
