David Wayne Meehan, 76
David Wayne Meehan, 76, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005 at his home in Hope, Idaho.
Private family services have been held. Interment will take place at the Woodland Cemetery in Washburn, Wis.
Dave was born on June 26, 1929 in Washburn, Wis., to Maurice David and Edna Carine (Jackson) Meehan. He grew up and attended schools in Washburn, graduating high school in 1947.
Dave attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison for one semester and then transferred to Northland College in Ashland, where he graduated in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in instrumental music with a minor in biology.
Dave enlisted in the United States Army in 1952, serving his country during the Korean War. He spent 15 months overseas as a sergeant in the artillery. In 1955, he received an honorable discharge.
Dave returned to Northland College for some refresher courses, this is where he met his bride-to-be, Dona Mae Henderson. Dave spent the next year teaching band and biology at Bayfield High School in Wisconsin.
The couple was married July 27, 1957, in Shell Lake, Wis., and traveled to Bonner County, Idaho, where they both received teaching contracts.
Dave taught instrumental music at Clark Fork, Hope and Northside schools for 25 years. In 1983, he was moved to Sandpoint Middle School, Sagle, Southside and Northside. He retired in 1986 from Bonner County School District.
Dave and Dona Meehan and Max and Bev Wiley opened the Edelhaus Restaurant in Hope in 1973. In 1974, the Meehans bought out the Wileys and continued to run the restaurant until 1996. Dave loved the restaurant, cooking, visiting with customers, making sausage, and making money.
Dave was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint, an associate member of the Clark Fork Lutheran Church, member of the Clark Fork Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a life member of the NRA.
He enjoyed music, cooking, reading, target shooting, reloading ammunition, and leather work.
He is survived by his wife, Dona Meehan of Hope; a sister, Kathleen Taylor of Washburn, Wis.; two aunts, Arlin Foley of Council Bluff, Iowa, and Fern Lysager of Provo, Utah; two sisters-in-law, Helen (Don) Jacklen of Hibbing, Minn., and Judy (Paul) Markgren of Rice Lake, Wis.; a brother-in-law, Glen (Norma) Henderson of Kalispell, Mont.; and 10 nieces and nephews, and 30 great-nieces and great-nephews.
