Sandpoint blanks LC 3-0

| September 26, 2005 9:00 PM

Ever since the team opened the season losing for the first time ever to Lakeland, it's been a steadily improving work in progress for the Bulldog girls. Their 3-0 pasting of Lewis and Clark on Monday showed that they've come a long way in the past month.

"We're stepping it up and starting to play our game now," said senior defender Tori Allmaras, who played the second half in goal. "We're playing as one, everything is starting to click, every game we're getting better and better"

Posting their third consecutive shut-out, the Bulldogs ran their record to 6-4-2, and thoroughly confused Lewis and Clark.

Sadey Vogel, Tori Smith and Tiffany Windju provided the scoring punch, and the stingy defense yielded only one shot to Lewis and Clark.

"Sandpoint did some things we haven't seen yet," said Tiger coach Casey Curtis. "They move their forwards around a lot and I think it caused a little confusion at times."

Bulldog coach Ed Bock has been experimenting with some different looks in practice, pressing and penetrating more, and it's starting to pay off as his forwards begin to grasp the system.

"They're working really hard at being creative, using some diagonal runs to attack the goal," said Bock. "They're all fast, but they need to get themselves into some empty spaces."

The Bulldogs are heading into a stretch of their schedule that will let them know just how much they've improved since that season opening debacle at Lakeland. In a four day span they host Lake City, travel down to Moscow, and finish it off hosting Post Falls on Saturday.

"It's going to be a tough week for us," said Bock. "Three league games in four days is rough, but we're in great condition and everyone is back healthy."

Sandpoint hosts Lake City this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m at Barlow Field.
