Sandpoint dominant in shutout

| September 29, 2005 9:00 PM

Sandpoint finally had a score indicative of their rock-solid soccer. Bucking a recent trend of creating ample scoring chances but coming away with nothing to show for it, they were finally able to finish their handiwork, blanking visiting Moscow 5-0 at rain-soaked Travers Field.

Moscow (3-6) coach Jared Vreeland said his young squad was not ready for the speed of play the more experienced Bulldogs brought.

"They were faster to the ball, faster moving the ball, and mentally and physically stronger."

Sandpoint's defense was able to limit Moscow to a couple of shots on goal and Brandon Eddy scored the first two goals, taking care of an area that head coach Randy Thoreson has been preaching to the team.

"We didn't let them hang around, which we have a tendency to do," said Thoreson. "Our ball movement was pretty good today, and our combination play was decent, especially on a wet field."

Michael Brewer, Kyle Van Dyk and Alex Wolf scored the remaining goals, and RJ Dixon added two assists.

The 9-1-2 (7-0-2) Bulldogs play at Post Falls this Saturday at noon, and are keeping their sights on a league title.

"If we continue to be focused, get better, and play smart soccer, then the league title is well within our grasp," said Thoreson.
