Library offering English program
SANDPOINT — The East Bonner County Library will host an afternoon social at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 in room 103 and 104 to welcome and meet our neighbors who speak English as a second language.
The Lifelong Learning Center in the library continues to recruit and coordinate free tutoring services for the community in reading, math and GED preparation, as well as English as a second language.
Over the past seven years, volunteer tutors have assisted more than 105 people want to improve their writing, speech and comprehension of English.
Along with its tutoring service, the library offers foreign films (DVDs and videos), children's books, an increasing number of foreign books. But most importantly, the library serves as a door to the world for those who struggle with our language and culture.
The library can assist with computer comprehension and access foreign language sites as well as places to improve English. Books and other material can be obtained through the inter-library loan.
The April 11 social hour is the second in a series that will give the community, English speakers and English-as-a-second language-speakers an opportunity to meet one another, share experiences, practice language skills and exchange ideas.
