Tax cap initiative steaming along

| April 8, 2006 9:00 PM

A recent letter to the Bee criticized the efforts of STOP (Sensible Taxation of Property) and the initiative we are promoting to help save homes from the onerous property taxes.

I called the lady who wrote the letter because it read as though she had some bad information. It turns out she apparently had a "copied" initiative (not color-coded) indicating changes and additions to the text. One particular area of the text she disagreed with has been the law for a number of years and we had made no changes in this area.

However, she was asking all readers to refute our initiative partly based upon text she presumed we had changed.

Since taking on this (non-paying) responsibility, I have resigned myself to ignoring personal attacks and attacks on our initiative. However, we are entering the crunch mode of signature-gathering and I want to maintain a successful focus for the rest of the campaign.

All of us bear the fruit of free speech. My only caveat to this glorious right is to examine the real intent of some negative messages. Is there a hidden agenda? The initiative is gathering steam around the state. The next few weeks are critical. Please sign our initiative if you have not already.
