Joseph Richards Duncalfe

| April 11, 2006 9:00 PM

A passed from this world on April 10, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services and social gathering will be held at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park on Thursday, April 13, at 4 p.m. 303 W. River Dr., in Spokane.

Born and raised in the Spokane area, he is known for his generosity and caring, always looking out for the "little guy." Always with a joke or a quip, a kind word or a jab, he will forever be remembered as Joey, Papa Joe, Grandpa Joe; always by first name and always with a smile.

He is survived by his daughter, Deanna (Duncalfe) Goguen, her husband Mark and grandson Jacob Goguen; with numerous loved ones and friends who will love him as a father, husband, friend, or boss … he will remain forever in our hearts.

Joe experienced a 40-plus year career in the hotel/restaurant management industry, servicing some of the most prestigious hotels in the country. From Spokane to Seattle, Washington D.C. to San Diego, Joe is known from coast to coast for his unique yet endearing style. His employees became his family; hence, he has a very large family.

From old cars, tractors, and old wooden boats, floathouses, river houses to horses, show dogs, motorcycles and cars, Joe always had a artistic and precise eye for detail and a colorful imagination … always creating and obtaining the best, with renowned recognition.

The family requested, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the WSU Hotel/Restaurant School for a scholarship being set up in Joe's name. Joe's life and career were tremendously influenced by his education at Washington State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in hotel restaurant administration in 1969.

Donations to the memorial scholarship fund can be made to: WSU foundation by noting "Joe Duncalfe Scholarship - SHBM" in the memo field. Checks can be mailed directly to WSU College of Business, P.O. Box 644750, Pullman, WA 99164-4650.
