Post Falls sweeps Sandpoint meet

SANDPOINT — Seth Hyde broke the Post Falls school record in the 400 meters with a time of 50.4 seconds, eclipsing a mark that had stood since 1971, as Post Falls won both the boys' and girls' titles at the Sandpoint Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. Nick Mehalechko won the 100 and 200 meter sprints and Angie Whalen won the 800 and 1600 meter runs as the Trojans depth was key in the wins.

"We had a very good meet today top to bottom," said Post Falls coach Wade Quesnell. "This has been one of the hardest working groups I've worked with, and I've been at Post Falls a long time. I think we're overachieving and hopefully we'll continue to do that."

The Coeur d' Alene boys finished second and their girls third, the Sandpoint girls finished second and their boys third and Clark Fork finished fourth in both.

Lucas Pope had a personal best of 14 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault to lead the Vikings. Sheldon Cramer of Sandpoint dominated both the discus and shot put, and Charlie Hirning just missed on his third attempt at tying his school record of 6 feet, 8 inches in the high jump, winning easily at 6-5.

Freshman Bailey Hewitt of Clark Fork posted impressive wins in the 100 meter hurdles and 100 meter dash to win the Cats' only titles.
