Lieselotte (Lilo) K. Githens, 74, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed on peacefully with her family by her side, on Feb. 20, 2006, at Pinewood Care Center in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

A memorial service and interment will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 17 2006, at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls.

Born in Dresden, Germany, April 17, 1931, to Maria and Walther Danell, she was the youngest of three children. Sadly, her mother died when she was only two years old.

By the age of 14, Lilo was on her own, working in a bank, during which time, she witnesses the horrific World War II bombing of her hometown of Dresden.

Lilo came to the United States in May 1953, speaking only German. She managed to learn the English language by reading comic books. Lilo lived temporarily in Trinidad, Colo., before moving to Poway, Calif., where she raised her three children, Mike, Pat and Debbie.

After completing electronics school, Lilo was employed for many years at Sony Corp. in Rancho Bernardo Calif., as an electronic technician, building and inspecting television sets. It was at Sony that she met her dear and cherished best friend, Sandy … a friendship that lasted more than 30 years.

Ready for a change, Lilo moved to Sagle, Idaho, in 1978. Soon after, she went on to work at Hewlett Packard in Liberty Lake, Wash., for several years, before retiring in Post Falls.

Lilo embraced her German culture, and enjoyed telling stories about where she grew up. She also loved listening to Mozart or Beethoven, adored German food, and traveling to places like Leavenworth or Lake Louise, as they reminded her of home. She joined the "Rambling Rovers" and enjoyed being able to travel and see new places.

Lilo is survived by her son, Mike Githens of Ramona, Calif.; daughters, Pat (Paul)VanVolkinburg of Sagle and Debbie Harris of Spokane, Wash.; and grandchildren Jennifer, Donovan, Erik and Samantha.
