Elbert Harold Laws

Elbert Harold Laws, passed away peacefully in Sandpoint, Idaho, after a rich and rewarding life.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint, Idaho, with Pastor Ken Smith of the First Baptist Church officiating.

Harold was born on Sept. 10, 1915, in Milan, Ind., the younger of two children. He worked on the family farm with his father, Clarence, until he graduated with honors from Milan High School at the age of 15.

He then attended the University of Indiana for both undergraduate studies and medical school, graduating AOA in June 1940.

During his time there, he married Marilou Klophel on May 6, 1939.

Harold and Marilou had two girls, Nancy born on Nov. 1, 1941, and Linda born April 29, 1944.

During the early years of the war, he worked for the Boeing Company in Seattle as a medical officer.

He then practiced internal medicine in a small group practice from 1942-1968.

At that point, he became associate dean at the University of Washington medical school and medical director at Harborview Hospital in Seattle.

In July 1959, he served for several months as a consultant to the American Arabian Oil Company in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, setting up an X-ray survey program for employees.

He retired in 1982 to be with his wife and they moved to Sandpoint in 1997.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Laws; grandson, Scott Dunn; granddaughter-in-law, Wendy Dunn; and great-grandchildren, Casey, Keegan, Garrett and Hailey Dunn.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilou, after 64 years of marriage; his sister, Aline; and daughter, Linda.
