Board selects 'super' finalists

SANDPOINT — Four experienced education leaders will be in Sandpoint Thursday and Friday as the search for the next superintendent of the Lake Pend Oreille School District enters the final phase.

Two finalists are from Idaho, and two are from Washington state. They include:

? Patrick Charlton, principal of Century High School in Pocatello. He holds a doctoral degree in education administration.

Charlton planned for and in 1999 opened Century High, an award-winning high school.

He has led successful levy and bond campaigns and has participated in numerous community activities in Pocatello and American Falls. He began his career as a high school teacher.

? Dominic (Dick) Cvitanich, assistant superintendent for student learning and teaching at Puyallup School District in western Washington.

He has previous administrative experience in Highline School District in Burien, Wash., and has been a principal at all levels. He began his career teaching elementary school.

? Michael Z. Green, superintendent of Nine Mile Falls School District, north of Spokane, since 1997.

Previously, he was the assistant superintendent of Riverview School District in Carnation, Wash. His teaching experience was in elementary schools in Washington and Alaska.

Jim Norton, superintendent of Parma School District in southwest Idaho since 2001. He managed construction of a new high school that was completed this year and led the planning that resulted in a school construction bond that passed with 81 percent approval. He began his career as a first grade teacher.

The board will interview candidates on Thursday and the public has three opportunities to meet the finalists:

? A forum will be held Thursday from 4p.m.-6 p.m. at Farmin Stidwell School.

? A public reception from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. will be hosted by Coldwater Creek in the corporate office atrium, McGhee Road in Kootenai.

? Lunch will be served in Clark Fork on Friday from 11:30 a.m.-1p.m. at Clark Fork Jr.-Sr. High school.

Members of the public will be invited to provide written input about the candidates.
