Allan Cecil "Bud" Newcomb passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006, at Bonner General Hospital. He was 78.

There will be a celebration of his life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall in Priest River.

He was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Spokane, Wash., to Gaylord Yocum and Violet Agnes (Brooks) Newcomb. He was raised in the Priest Lake area and Bud attended school at the Newcomb School and graduated Priest River High School in 1946.

Most of his adult life was spent in Kenai, Alaska, where he moved his family in 1969. He returned to his childhood home in 1996 to live out his days. He was a millwright by trade and a farmer by choice.

His family said, "He was a loving, hard-working, generous man who never met a stranger. He was the type of dad who taught by example and we always knew we were loved and supported unconditionally. He was passionately in love with his wife, Lea; his children, grandchildren and antique automobiles. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him. We will carry him in our hearts forever."

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lea Montgomery Newcomb; sons and daughters, Michael, Patrick, Melonee Long, Kelly and Pete LaBarbera; a brother and his wife, Wayne L. and Peggy I. Newcomb; grandchildren, Dabre, Danett, Devin, Tayler, Katie, Michelle, Eric and Christina; and four great-grandsons. He also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and an extended family from Georgia to Alaska.
