Byway backers are wrong in their support
A recent editorial comment from Larry Fury referred to those of us who advocate a tunnel, rather then the byway — as the bureaucrats call it — "… featherbrains."
I have been acquainted with Larry for some time, and do not take personal offense at being called a featherbrain. Actually, had I thought of it myself, I may have made use of it from time to time.
Go look at the ITD "byway" rendering at the Bonner Mall. If anyone thinks this is how it will actually look, I have a bridge to sell you. And we're not going to fill in Sand Creek, we're going to "extend the shoreline." What a great euphemism.
Way back when, at an ITD informational kiosk, I suggested a tunnel as an alternative route. I was looked at like I had two heads.
This featherbrains first choice would be a tunnel from Algoma to the Bronx … keep 'em in the dark until far from the city and the lake. My second choice would be the west side route. Go under or around, not through.
I don't think those who support the Sand Creek route are featherbrains. I just think they're wrong.
As an aside, I recently passed through Jackson, Wyo. What a gosh-awful mess (my opinion). I keep hearing that the powers that be wish to turn Sandpoint into a destination resort such as Jackson, Aspen, etc. Jackson is geared to screw people, and they are good at it. The scary thing to me is that our little corner of the planet has more to offer then Jackson. This will probably prove to be our downfall.
