Have Idaho officials shot themselves in the foot?

| August 23, 2006 9:00 PM

After reading "Rollback loses traction with tax commission" in the Bonner County Daily Bee (Aug. 15, 2006), I wondered if the Idaho public office holders, and Idaho public servants have adopted a "shot oneself in one's foot" policy.

Last couple months it has been like a sports game. "We The People" are out here watching the game between the "Bonner County Lame Ducks" and The "Boise Brutes." Color given by the "Important Hat" league, which is represented by the deputy attorney general for the tax commission.

If you read the articles over the period of time you'll realize "We The People" are thought to be more like Barbie dolls and GI Joes. More and more the "public" people detach themselves from the very people they represent. Several months ago the voters in Bonner County mandated through the school district 'no new taxes" and that alone should have told the deputy attorney general that things were not equitable. If you want to make things equitable you lower taxes rather than raise.

It may mean one less dress suit for you, but on the other hand I'll have one extra can of beans to put on the dinner table each month.
