Tricks of the trade keep kitchen sparkling

| August 29, 2006 9:00 PM

In this week's article, I thought I would share a few tricks of the trade in dealing with kitchen problems.

1. To help eliminate the smell of burnt food in the kitchen, boil some lemon slices or 1 tablespoon of bottled lemon juice in a small pan for several minutes.

2. To help eliminate the smell of fried foods, even fish, place a small bowl of white vinegar next to the stove when cooking the food.

3. To remove plastic from a toaster, just apply a little finger nail polish remover. Note: Make sure the toaster is cool and unplugged.

4. Are you tired of your new steel wool rusting after using it only one time? Put it in a plastic bag and place it in your freezer until it is needed again.

5. To remove rust from kitchen utensils, stick into an onion four about an hour. Make sure you moved them around so the juice can do its job.

6. To clean a coffee pot and thermos, fill them with warm water and add 1 teaspoon of bleach. Let soak for about one hour and then rinse well. The stains will be gone.

7. To clean porcelain pieces and sinks, just fill the sink with warm water and add several denture-cleaning tablets.

8. Small chips on drinking glasses can be smoothed out with a few strokes of an emery board.

If you are allergic to any of the above products, please don't use them. Always test fabrics and paints before using any chemical compounds. Please remember to wear rubber gloves or protect your hands and eye-protection for your eyes.
