Bulldogs fall 2-1 at home

| August 31, 2006 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — When young players get their indoctrination into varsity soccer there is a learning curve that only comes with playing time.

Randy Thoreson and the Bulldogs (1-3-1, 1-2) are in the midst of that learning curve as they fell 2-1 at home to Moscow (3-2, 1-2) Thursday at War Memorial Field.

"We need to work on every facet of the game with these youngsters," said a disappointed Thoreson, forced to play a very green lineup because of injuries. "We didn't play well today. We didn't combine well and our passing attack was weak."

Thoreson said the quickest way to get things turned around, other that recovering from injuries, is to improved the 1 v 1 defense and marking.

Kyle Meaux scored the Bulldogs only goal on a penalty kick in the second half. As they have all season, they had more shots than their opponent, it's just not paying off yet.

The Bulldogs host Coeur d' Alene Saturday night at 6 p.m. at War Memorial in a league contest.

First half — 1, Mos, Willem Kampenhout (Dom Trevisan), 33:00. Second half —2, Mos, Matt Martin (Luke O'Rourke), 41:00. 3, Spt, Kyle Meaux, PK, 66:00.

Shots on goal — Mos 8, Spt 8.

Saves — Mos 4; Spt, Ryan Williams 3.

MOSCOW — Becca Stone had a goal and an assist and Brittany Clawson added two assists as the Bulldogs tied host Moscow 3-3 Thursday.

After falling behind 2-0, Brittany Oakley headed in a cross by Stone and Ali Kiselica scored off a corner kick by Clawson to tie the game at 2-2. Stone scored in the 74th minute to take the lead, before Moscow scored in extra minutes for the tie.

"We played our best game yet as far as possession and combination play," said Bulldogs' coach Adam Tajan. "We just made some bad defensive errors that they capitalized on."

Sandpoint (1-1-1) out shot the Bears 15-7, and Michelle Brothers had four saves in goal for the Bulldogs.
