Carole Ann Marie Street

| December 1, 2006 8:00 PM

Carole Ann Marie Street, founding teacher and mentor for the Sandpoint Waldorf School, died in Seattle, Wash., on Nov. 17, 2006, after a brief illness.

Carole moved to Sandpoint in the summer of 1992 at the behest of a group of parents who wished to have Waldorf education available for their children.

She stayed for seven years, until the school found its feet, and then moved on to another pioneer Waldorf school — the Brightwater School in Seattle.

Carole cultivated true and lasting friendships where ever she went. She was a gifted and inspirational teacher who had a profound influence on her many students and colleagues.

She will be remembered for her ready wit and hearty laugh, her graceful good humor, patience, and penetrating intelligence.

Carole was born of an Irish mother and English father in Birmingham, England, on Feb. 15, 1955.

Her family moved to Monterey, Calif., when Carole was a child.

She is survived by her mother, Shirley Moon; sisters Kathleen Battaglia, Teresa Brulc and Susan Wright of the Monterey Peninsula; brothers Robert Wright of North Carolina and Terrence Wright of Tillamook, Ore.; and her sons, Colin Street of Seattle, and Ben Street of Spokane.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Peter Wright; and her father, Terrence Wright.

A memorial service will be held at the Sandpoint Waldorf School on Sunday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. A potluck brunch will follow.
