Experienced Lake City too much for Bulldogs

| December 5, 2006 8:00 PM

SANDPOINT — Riki Moreland posted a double-double as Lake City used advantages in height and experience to beat Sandpoint 57-33 Tuesday night at Les Rogers Court.

Moreland finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds as Lake City (4-1, 2-1 IEL) built a big early lead before playing Sandpoint (1-4, 0-1) nearly even in the second half. Amanda Krier had seven points and six boards, and Emma Hawn had three points, four assists and two steals to pace the Timberwolves.

"We were lethargic and just going through the motions," said Lake City coach Darren Taylor. "We got out-hustled by Sandpoint start to finish."

Brittany Oakley finished with nine points, three assists and three steals to lead Sandpoint, who played almost exclusively with underclassmen. Alissa Tenuto added four points and seven rebounds, and Christina Johnson and Lynn DiBenedetto each had six points as the Bulldogs struggled to keep Lake City from getting second chance opportunities off the glass.

"It's about refinement, we need more games under our belt," said Bulldogs' coach Jim Alsager. "Lake City is a veteran, senior-laden team and pressure doesn't rattle them. That's where we need to get to."

Sandpoint plays at Medical Lake on Friday night.
