Gustafson's big night not enough as Cats fall to Knights 58-47
PLUMMER — Freshman Shaina Gustafson is wasting little time making her presence known on the varsity level, as she filled in for the sick Bailey Hewitt to lead Clark Fork with 18 points in a 58-47 loss to Lakeside in Plummer on Tuesday night.
Rayna Allen added 17, but the potent guard duo was forced to play every minute, and wore down in the fourth quarter, where they were out-scored 20-8 and let the lead slip away.
"Shaina stepped up with the absence of Bailey," said Cats' coach Dexter Vogel. "We hustled really hard, had good passing, got good looks at the basket, just got tired at the end."
Megan Hess added eight points, and Mandy Martin and Chelsea Macumber each had three as the Cats (1-4) rose to the occasion without the services of perhaps their best player.
Sophomore post Rian Miller scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the host Knights (2-3).
Clark Fork plays at the Thompson Falls Tournament this Friday.
